YOUR FIRST ROUND

How to play

  1. Pick an artist and give everyone a view of the paper or board. Pair a new reader with a helper who can quietly explain the card without telling the guessers.
  2. Reveal a card privately. Make sure the artist understands the idea, then start the 120-second timer when they are ready to draw.
  3. Let the artist build the picture with simple shapes while the others guess. Mark a correct answer for a point, or pass and reveal another card if the idea does not work for your group.
  4. Use a fresh patch of paper for each new picture. The clock continues between cards; pause when someone needs help or you need to arrange the supplies.
  5. After the round, switch teams and artists. Give everyone who wants to draw a turn before comparing scores or starting another game.

KEEP IT ENJOYABLE

Make room for different abilities

  • Choose categories the players recognize. Easy is a difficulty setting, not a promise that every child will know every idea; a host can help explain or pass a card.
  • Let players sit comfortably and use a larger surface or thicker pencil if useful. A helper can hold the paper steady while the artist makes the marks.
  • Use a practice picture to agree on the rules. Pictures without words are a simple start, but decide together whether sounds or gestures would make the game more enjoyable.
  • Treat recognizable clues as a success. A circle and a few lines can tell a story, and guessing should not depend on whose drawing looks most realistic.

PRACTICE WITH A PENCIL

One warm-up idea for each category

Try these practice suggestions before the timer starts. They are examples to sketch together, separate from the card currently drawn by the game.

  • Animals

A cat curled up on a cushion

Draw the cushion, then a rounded cat with pointed ears and a tail.

  • Objects

A rain boot with a puddle inside

Make a tall boot outline and show a wavy water line near the top.

  • Places

A playground with a tall slide

Use a ladder and a sloping line, then add a swing nearby.

  • Scenes

    Feeding ducks at a pond

Draw a person beside the water, a few ducks, and small food dots.

ANOTHER WAY TO PLAY

Play toward a shared goal

For a cooperative game, have everyone guess and aim to solve five pictures together. You can ignore team totals or choose one team before starting. Keep rotating the artist and celebrate a clever clue even when time runs out. If a card is too unfamiliar, pass it and try a fresh idea.

THE CURRENT GAME

Fresh cards across rounds

Cards do not repeat during a game. Drawing a card removes it from the available pool, including cards you pass or leave hidden. The next team continues with the remaining cards.

Reset game or Apply settings & reset starts over with the full matching pool and clears the scores. Reloading or leaving this page also clears the game; cards, scores, and settings are not saved for your next visit.
